This semester we were loaned out an iPad to bring into a classrooms and use with the students. I definitely agree that the iPad is not only a toy, but can also be used for educational purposes! There are so many applications that can be used for creating books, reading books, learning activities, exploring music and science, and documenting children’s learning. It is a great way for students to do activities that they can show later and you can keep on file for documentation. I love the way you used the iPad in this article and using the camera as an educational tool. And then having them move on to typing on the iPad the words they had taken pictures of was so creative. Having the students use the camera to take pictures of words is such a great way to have them be interactive while learning and having fun! This article seems dedicated to using the iPad for educational purposes and not just using it for a toy. It gives the children the impression that they are doing professional work when they first draft and edit before taking it to the iPad. When I have a classroom of my own I plan to try and create interactive activities using the iPads like the activities you had suggested. Technology really is an important tool in the classroom!Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09696958903718519574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394037286947595820.post-32181605701904246002015-04-01T21:42:28.208-07:002015-04-01T21:42:28.208-07:00Hello, My name is Conor and I am currently a stude...Hello, My name is Conor and I am currently a student at SUNY Geneseo majoring in Childhood/ Special Education. I am researching the use of iPad's in the classroom and I think your seminars are a really interesting idea. At a time when technology is increasingly becoming implemented into a classroom a seminar would be perfect for teachers who are not quite sure how to successfully use them. From your post it seems that you know what you are doing when it comes to iPad's and when it comes down to it all teachers are going to need to know how to use iPad's in the coming years and they will be implemented into classrooms. I really liked how you explained technology as being something that transformed a classroom. Your seminars are a window to help struggling teachers or teachers who just want to get a feel for iPad's before using them in the classroom. If a teacher is unable to comprehend how to use an iPad then it will show and therefore the students will suffer.Conorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11502411452811962501noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394037286947595820.post-62916670739019838122015-02-23T20:38:35.626-08:002015-02-23T20:38:35.626-08:00Hello! This semester for my education class, we were given an iPad to extend lessons durring our field visits and I definitely have to agree that iPads can be used for educational purposes. I have learned that there are so many educational apps like ebooks, games, and learning tools that can be easily used by young children. I read your posts and I really enjoyed reading about how you used the iPads as a replacement for workbooks. I felt like it is such a good way to work not only on their math and literature skills but also their fine motor skills and promoting their understanding of technology. Plus, it's a great way to prevent wasting paper and the idea of multiple students being able to get help strait from the iPad instead of idly waiting for the teachers help is wonderful. I really enjoyed using the iPad with students from my practicum classroom and I really found myself enjoying it a lot! I believe that technology is really crucial in the classroom.Lindseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09696958903718519574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394037286947595820.post-12142965647540190952015-02-23T19:37:48.993-08:002015-02-23T19:37:48.993-08:00Hi! In this class, we are learning mostly about ways that we can use IPads and the different apps available in order to promote literacy in Early Childhood classrooms. Reading about your lesson with this class has me inspired that the things that I am learning are significantly better simply relying on worksheets! Do you feel that worksheets should be used at all in K-2 classrooms or do you think that, if given the chance, you would simply require IPads for your lessons? In addition, what inspired you to create this lesson? Did you simply look for a way with the least challenges to teach these students how to express position words or are you also trying to teach the students how to survive in this technology centered society that we live in? Lastly, what advice would you give me, as a prospective educator, to better incorporate different modes into my lessons? I look forward to hearing from you and please continue to do the amazing work! I really like that you talked about how implementing the use of iPads into a classroom can make children very active. The most beneficial part of this post in my eyes is that you are mostly talking about using apps that are already on the iPad and apps that are free. This is very helpful, because than parents and schools are not going to have to use money for all the apps. I wonder what other apps already on the iPad could be beneficial to a K-2 classroom. I am studying to be an early childhood teacher, and will be certified after next semester, so this is very useful to me. During my practicum experience this semester, my favorite apps that I used in my classroom of 3 and 4 years old was "Draw and Tell" and "ScreenChomp" - and the best thing was that they are both free! I found Draw and Tell to be very good for children's creativity with story-telling, and ScreenChomp was good to use as a follow-up activity for a lesson. Both apps allow for voice recordings which helped the children to articulate their thoughts and to express themselves.Inhwahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04730649620721342336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394037286947595820.post-18740058676603981072013-12-11T16:30:00.867-08:002013-12-11T16:30:00.867-08:00Hello! I did an iPad exploration project this semester where I brought an iPad into a Prekindergarten classroom. The items your brought up in this post really have me thinking about the power of the iPad more than I already believed the iPad had. There are so many great features that you pointed out. The differentiation is endless with an iPad. Do your students get the same iPad each day? If so, do you load different apps on each students iPad to cater to their needs or do all of the iPads have the same apps on it? I'm eager to hear back from you! One last question, do you change which apps are in the dock depending on the student?

Thank you in advance!

I look forward to reading more of your blog.

-Kate Katenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8394037286947595820.post-28388223418942987382013-10-04T20:23:59.777-07:002013-10-04T20:23:59.777-07:00Hurrah!
